VHDX file won't mount in WIndows 8.1 if is stored in Samba share

I'm trying to mount a vhdx file in windows 8.1 and it's giving-me this error:

The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file

This file was created in a local directory and copied to NAS share.

If I try to create it directly on NAS I get the same error.

If I use (or try to create) vhd file in Windows 8.1: Same error

In Windows 7 I can create and attach the file without any problem.

With all these problems, I cant perform System Image Backup as it creates vhd/vhdx files.

Hi

We hope your issue has been resolved.

I have noticed that this status quo with Windows 8 has been reported by many users, that issue occurs when attempting to attach a VHD/VHDXs from a Linux-based NAS or storage server by using a startup script from Windows. It looks like Linux-based NAS keeps a lock on my VHDs and VHDXs and after 3 and 4 minutes PC reboot, the file locks appear to go away by themselves in some cases.

Try mapping a drive to the SMB share, then in attach by using DISKPART:

C:\> net use x: \\nas\share

C:\> diskpart

DISKPART> select vdisk file=x:\pathto\the_disk.vhd

DISKPART> attach vdisk

DISKPART> assign letter=z

DISKPART> quit

C:\> dir z:

If it is a Linux-based NAS, make sure you have NTFS/terminal access to it. Since we are not familiar with it. You might need to get further information from other experts who familiar with Linux.
