Using Win 7, 2008 R2 server, and users are losing ability to print often
We have over 3000 printers and 15000 users. We are currently migrating users from Win Xp to Win 7 Enterprise, currently about 2500 migrated I believe. We are running 2008 R2 server and have tried to keep many drivers updated as possible, some drivers still being tested. Whether it be a Xerox printer like a 5225 WorkCentre, or a HP printer like a Color M551, we are getting users that connect to the printer and print for a short time (anywhere from 1 print to 30) and then are not able to print any longer. The results of not printing vary somewhat, but typically the print will say its printing and never come out of the printer. It will go into the queue for the printer and then disappear as normal, with no paper output from the printer. Sometimes the user will not be able to choose the printer, such as going into Excel and it will default to the default printer, but if you changed printers it would not physically change the printer to print. For instance, printer A is default, you go to change to printer B, but after you change and click on printer B it still shows printer A as the printer to use. If you go into devices and printers to change default to see if that works, you then get an error message that I think gives you 0x000007b. I have looked up information and some of this I believe was supposed to be fixed in the 2388142 hotfix. This hotfix was applied in SP1 but we are still having these problems. Anyone have any ideas on this please?

Hi, Does this issue occur on all machines? To diagnose the issue, I suggest you to follow the steps below to add a shared printer. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers. 2. Click Add a Printer. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port. 5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format. \\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer] Then click Next. 6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation. During installing, choose the correct driver in the driver list. Also, install the proper printer drivers on the Windows 7 clients. Does the above help? If any error message is received, please let us know. Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support
