Using Outlook Express Abroad
I#'ll be in Australia for a few weeks and would like to use Outlook Express there when I get access to a local Wireless Service. I think I will need to get the Server settings from the local wireless supplier (say in a hotel) and change them on my computer. I think the only settings I'll need to change areIncoming Mail Server (currently POP3)Incoming Mail (POP3) (currently mail.talktalk.net)Outgoing mail (SMTP) (currently mail.talktalk.net)Is the above true? If so, am I likely to be able to elicit this information from e.g. the hotel desk? If not, can you suggest how I go about tracing and contacting someone who can provide this info? Am sure some of you boffins out there know how to do this, I wasn't able to use Microsoft Support search to answer this. regards Dave Ross

Does talktalk require authentication for the outgoing server? If so, then it's likely that your settings will work unchanged. Otherwise, it's not likely you'll need to change the incomiing server values, only the outgoing server. If I were going to do what you describe, I'd set up a gmail account and use the gmail server as the outgoing server. This will require authentication and the use of a port other than port 25, but it should allow you to send mail no matter what ISP you're using.Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]------------------------------If a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. You can not use Outlook Express with Vista, whetherin Australia or anywhere else.If my assumption is wrong, and you're using Windows XP, please askyour questions in a Windows xp forum.Ken Blake (MS MVP)
