Using Disk Commander in DaRT 6.5 to Restore a Lost Volume
Let me start at the beginning for this one. My work laptop has Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. When formatting another drive I accidentally set active the main partition of the C: drive, rather than the system reserved 100Mb portion. On rebooting the next day, I get a "Insert media and press any key" message. I did the following to try to resolve the issue: Used an XP Repair Disk that was built using PE Builder to check the state of the system Scanned the system using Winternals Disk Commander Set the System Reserved partition as active Rebooted At this point the system told me that the BitLocker encryption was different, and I had to enter the recovery password. I did so, but was then told that there was corruption to critical data and I should use the recovery key - which I did not have. I burnt a copy of the Microsoft Diagnostic and Repair Tool version 6.5 and used the Disk Commander in there to try to recover the lost volume. On analysis of the system it was able to locate the missing volume, but on selecting it and hitting "Next" the following message is displayed in a pop-up window: "Lost Volume 1" volume can not be restored because of volume partition overlaps with other existing partition. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to how to recover the data?

Hi, According to your description, I suggest to perform these tests: 1 For Bitlocker recovery key, you can try to use a date recovery agent to recover bitlocker-protected driver, more detail steps you can refer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee424312(WS.10).aspx 2 If it doesn’t work, you can perform a system restore in Win RE: 1) Restart PC 2) Press “F8” and select “Repair Your computer” 3) choose System Restore. Hope it helps. Regards, Leo HuangPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
