Users Profile Service failed the log on - What causes this ?
Hello All. I have multiple cases in our environment where a user tries to log in with their domain credentials and it says "User profile service failed the log on". I am aware of the registry change, where you basically rename the .bak reg and delete the temp registry, doing a system restore and all other tweaks. My problem is "What on earth causes this". This was a issue since the XP days and I am trying to understand what causes this error. I know there are several threads with the same issue but the solution given is always the same. Now coming to how was windows 7 deployed on this machine. I used sysprep and imagex to capture the wim file, pretty simple nothing too complicated. This wim file was imported to SCCM and task sequences were used to install applications. The fact that I cannot reproduce this issue makes life harder. Even opening a case with PSS is worthless, they would go through those routine questions and dump the issue on some other application. I did boot log capture using Procmon on a users machine who was logging in with a temporary profile but could not figure out the root cause. Is there anyone who can throw some light on what might cause this. We use Windows 7 Enterprise edition 64 bit. Standard applications are- Adobe reader, Office professional plus 2010, Symantec endpoint protection 11.0.6200. Please give me your valuable suggestion to find out the root cause. ANy help is much appreciated.
