User accounts and all documents disappeared completely
Working on a friends computer, it was built back in april/may. I have looked it over and for no apparent reason all of the documents and user accounts are completly gone. I have tryed showing hidden files and folders and have manually combed the HD looking for any trace of the files with no luck. All of the dated documents and installs have a date of no later than 5/19/10. The only thing I can find on the computer with dates later than that is the windows updates which show through yesterday. I have tried using the search for files or folders using generic searches like .jpg or .jpeg and there is nothing there other than the original system images. I have been working with computers for 20 years and have never heard of a system rolling itself back and automatically deleting months of information on its own with no trace left anywhere. This computer has a raid mirror setup with 2 HD's that have identical info. I have tried using system restore to no avail. There appears to be absolutely nothing wrong with the computer itself. Please advise....

System Restore uses restore points to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time, without affecting personal files. To use System Restore to restore Windows 7 to a previous state, follow these steps mentioned in the below link: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/517d3b8e-3379-46c1-b479-05b30d6fb3f01033.mspx#EI

Try Running a scandisk. If the file allocation table or equivalent gets a bit messed up this can sometime help. I had a harddrive that wasnt showing up information yet it had 20gigs used. Run scandisk and rebooted. It all came back. Worth a goAlways remember to mark the treads if they help you out ! http://www.mypchealth.co.uk
