User account service failed logon - Win 7 Pro 64-bit in Win 2003 Enterprise R2 Domain Environment
I set up a new Dell Precision t1500 Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise R2 network. Set up all printers, programs, needed. Ran ccleaner to remove temp files & clean registry. Ran defraggler to get disk as neat as possible. Then made a disk image with a bootable CD of Acronis echo workstation with universal restore to an external usb IOmega 500 GB drive. After the above, the user profile (User's NETWORK account with admin rights) was no longer able to log onto computer in regular Windows. In Safe Mode with Networking it does log on. The error message states: User account failed logon. I have tried shutting down. Unplugging power. Waiting. Restarting. Same results. Logging onto the LOCAL computer with same user name & credentials works (this was set up before joining network) Logging onto computer with Network Name & Credentials works in Safe Mode with Networking Cannot log onto computer with Network User Name & Credentials ( identical to local computer user name & credentials) Other users from network have no problem logging on. Just the Network User & Credential I used to set up computer. All worked fine until I did the disk image with Acronis bootable disk echo workstation Note: Have used the same to disk image other win 7 pro computers on same network without any problem. Any Thoughts? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I believe I have solved my own problem and submit procedures taken should they be helpful to others. Looking at an MS KB page on how to properly delete a profile I took a look at the profiles in System Properties and the user-in-trouble's network profile was listed with a STATUS of Backup - all the others were listed as LOCAL I had noted some forum discussions where there was mention of registry profile keys being followed by a .bak suffix I went into the registry: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows NT\Current Version\Profile List\ and found two identical strings, the second pointing to [user account in trouble.domain name]. The First pointing to a user account called "Temp" (My guess is this is the user used to set up the computer - beginning at Dell and concluding with our firm: The Temp profile. Anyway, the profile string, found at the above registry location, pointing to [user account in trouble.domain name] was followed by the suffix ".bak". The identical string pointing to the Temp profile omitted the .bak suffix. To avoid identical name conflicts, I first renamed [user account in trouble.domain name]'s suffix from .bak to .bk I then renamed the Temp profile by giving it the suffix ".bak" I then deleted the [user account in trouble.domain name] suffix so there is no ".BK" After doing the above, I was again able to log onto the machine with the [user account in trouble.domain name]. I have no idea why this occured. Again, all worked fine until I did a disk image via a bootable cd of Acronis Echo Workstation with Universal Restore. Since I successfully did the same on previous Win 7 Pro 64-bit machinese with the same Bootable Acronis Disk, on the same Win 2003 Enterprise R2 network - I do not know that this Acronis Disk Image procedure is the actual culprit. Should this be helpful to others - I submit the above

There are several possible reasons. If the issue reoccurs, you can boot with local account and try to find the reasons in Event Log. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ”
