User account erased!
Hello, yesterday I created a separate user account for my son who likes to use my desktop sometimes to game while he stays over for the weekend. But as soon as I created it my profile disappeared a long with all my files and documents. The Guest acc is locked and the only other acc left was HP_Administrator which only contains documents that are five years old. The funny thing is all my son's gaming files are still there and documents that I have never seen since years ago have appeared. Does anyone know what happened and how I can get my original user account back? I'm currently using Windows XP Media Center, but my startup is a little different than others. Instead of selecting a user from a list you need to type in a username and password. Can anyone please help me? I have important stock documents and other files needed for my job. So if someone can give me any ideas on what to do that would be great.1 person needs an answerI do too

You were probably using the built-in Administrator for your daily work. Using the classic logon box, type "Administrator" for the user name (without the quotes) and if you never assigned a password to your account, leave that field blank. Hit Enter and see if you are back in your familiar user account. If you are, then you can either continue to use the classic logon box or switch back to using the Welcome Screen. You can put the Administrator back on the Welcome Screen as follows:http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_admin_ok.htmFrom what you said about having important documents in this account, I infer that you aren't backing up regularly. You should create and implement a backup strategy immediately because Stuff Always Happens. Here are some suggestions about that:http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Backing_UpIf the above didn't solve your issue, please let me know.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
