Upgrading Monitoring SQL Server store to S4B pool from Lync 2013 pool.

Hi all, I hope someone can answer my question about upgrading Monitoring SQL database.

I have an environment with 2 Lync 2013 FE's set up for Monitoring/archiving to a separate SQL Server default instance. The environment also has 2 Skype for Business servers.

Testing in my lab, as soon as I upgrade a Lync 2013 server to S4B, the SQL server becomes available to the rest of the S4B servers.

My question is how can the Monitoring be upgraded to the S4B pools without upgrading the Lync 2013 servers themselves?

I have tried it via the Topology builder, the SQL server is not listed in the drop down list and if I try to create it new I get the statement "SQL Server <Server FQDN> already contains a SQL instance hosting role 'MonitoringStore'."

Any advice appreciated, cheers.

I believe If you update the pool the associated Monitoring & archiving databases will also be update

Since there is no Monitoring & archiving  role post Lync server 2013 It would be possible to update just database as long as it is associated in Older version pool

I confirm, updating the pool also updates the M&A database.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to individually upgrade the M&A database without upgrading the pool.
Only option appears to be to create new DB and loose all the previous data or upgrade the pool (and then presumably decom the server.

Thanks for the response.
