ThanksKyle Kyle - Windows 7 Beta (build 7000)dropped deada week ago (August 1st). You must be running the RC (build 7100)..You will not be able to install the final released (RTM build 7600) version on top of the RC. There are two primary reasons why this is so:1.) The Beta and RC were released as Ultimate edition only. The final release comes in many flavors - from Starter to Ultimate. More than likely, you're likely to buy a copy of Home Premium or Professional edition - most likely whicever version is a match to the Vista edition that was on your system previously. The problem is you can't downgrade from Ultimate to Home Premium or Professional. You can only upgrade from a lower tier to a higher one. 2.) You do NOT want to mix RC code with the final version. You want to make sure you get a clean install. Back when the RC was released in April, Microsoft mentioned that there may be odd little quirks with upgrades from various versions - and that they will NOT be tracking those down. They did, however say they were going to track down those issues that came about from upgrades from Vista - and Vista only.If you're purchasing an upgrade copy of Windows 7, you'll need to back up the data files on your system as they are, and then install Vista again and then upgrade to Windows 7 and restore your data files from the backup.

Hi, Its not recommended to upgrade to 7600 directly. I suggest you do a clean install. but, IF YOU REALLY REALLY NEED TO, there is a workaround: 1. Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD. 2. Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from (a bootable flash drive or a directory on any partition on the machine running the pre-release build). 3. Browse to the sources directory. 4. Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad. 5. Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. 6. Save the file in place with the same name. 7. Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed. Hope it helps. Thanks.
