I already pre-ordered 7 Pro. Currently I'm running Vista Home Premium but I ran across this information below: ....I'm assuming, according to this, that I can NOT upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro? Only 7 Premium and Ultimate. Is this actually correct? I can't imagine why I couldn't upgrade from Vista Premium to Windows 7 Pro. Idon't particularly wantto do a Win7 Pro clean install because of all my drivers. Wouldn't many of my current drivers have to be updated with a clean install? Thanks! If you're running 32bit then the message below would show "32-bit".You can do an in-place upgrade to 64-bitWindows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate.If you choose to upgrade to a different edition you will need to perform a cleaninstallation. I am sure it is the same as Vista and will make you do a clean install if you go to PRO. I am doing 2 PC's for an Ortho clinic right now and Vista Buisness Pro will not upgrade Vista Premium because there are items in Win Premium that cause conflicts with business edition but I am able to go to Ultimate with inplace upgrade. I would say almost all your drivers will be available even on clean install but you will still want to download latest video card drivers.Tim Comes

Thanks. yes I ran the Upgrade Advisor which caused me to do further research and post my question. I think what I'm going to do is change my order back to 7 Home Premium and decidelater whetherto do an upgrade or clean install from the disk.

Thanks for the information. Yes probably so, being I currently have Vista Home if I were to attempt an upgrade to 7 Pro I would have to do a clean install. Originally all I wanted was to upgrade to Home Edition 7 with minimum problems. Meaning driver problems. So what I'm going to do is revert my order back to Home Premium 7 and decide later rather to do an upgrade or clean install from the disk. Thanks again.

I agree with Tim. Windows 7 installs easily with a clean install. I cannot get Windows RC 32 bit to upgrade anything. Once installed though, Win 7 has the crisp looks, feel and current driver updates like Vista with the speed and stability of Windows XP Pro. Everyone has their own opinion but I feel in time this could be the best OS yet. People hated Win Me after 98SP2 and Vista after Win XP Pro but Win 7 could be the best one yet.

Hi All,In a way I have simalar problems, I have purchased the upgrade disc for Windows 7 Pro, now I am running7 RC. When I go to upgrade will I have to re-install my Vista in order to update? Also I had Vista Ultimate on my computer prior to installing the 7 RC, will this give me a problem when trying to update to 7 PRO? I don't have a problem doing a clean install of 7 Pro but how or what am I going to have to do to get the upgrade on my PC?I just downloaded the Windows 7 Enterprise 90 day trail, if I install it can I upgrade some how from there?Thanks,

Okay...I guess I'm in the same boat as some and whant to make sure about this. My apologies if this is just beating a dead horse!I'm currently running Vista 32bit Ultimate. On amazon, I pre-purchased an upgrade version for Windows 7 Pro. From what I'm learning here, an actual "upgrade" will not be possible. But I could use the upgrade DVD if I were to do a clean install? Is that correct? I don't mind doing a clean install...but I want to make sure I understand all this correctly.Thanks to all!

I just orderd the 7 Ultimate upgradeand I ran the upgrade advisor that stated what Keith said. I have a 32 bit vista home premium oem but I want to install the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit when I get it, am I all good? Should I have pre orderd the FULL version?

I have in home 2 computers based on Vista x86 Home Premium (one laptop HP) and one computer based on Vista x64 Ultimate. I see Family Update to Windows 7 - $149.99 (sensed price - 3 licenses - not in Europe). All systems legal activated. I wan't update my all comps to Windows 7 with this pack. Problem is one - 2 comps x86 Premium & one x64 Ultimate. It's possible upgrade with Familly Pack my All computers to identical based 7? Vista=more RAM consumption, super turttle (at longer using ) and in my Ultimate Version = big price. New System - ver 7 this is better final version Vista. For me - its not bugged Windows 6.1 (Good Vista on new kernel based). I buy 2 windows (Premium & Ultimate, 1 preinstalled in laptop) and nerve - cannot chance automatically upgrade to Win 7! Only buy, buy and buy. Vista isn't revell. Typical in order to forget about it unfortunately not very sensational system - a possibility would be useful to a much cheap revision for all Vista users! Profits only! Up to it I bought Ultimate - a much cheaper possibility of the update was supposed to be to iidentical of Windows 7 version. I understand - nothing for free - but why the Microsoft favours only users in the interim period? I know it still from XP - it was identically. Damage - quite a lot of users can become discouraged from such a politics. Far more it is possible to make a profit respecting and caring for all legal users. Much minimum price of the upgrade = faster passing on the new system and forgetting about what was. I tested Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 RC and the pose with lack of the possibility of Classic Menu (more efficient navigation) I can see very positives! New (beta!) ver. = better stability, i don't see BSOD, minimum consumption RAM etc. MICROSOFT - very please for the lower price of the upgrade! Net profit only!
