Updating to 8.1 via Store - Nightmare... Why can't you fix this MS?

Have been tearing my hair out with this for 4 hours now. Attempting to install 8.1 via the Store in Windows 8 showing the following:

"Your Windows 8.1 install couldn't be completed"

I tried following every blog post I could find outlining fixes. I tried installing every possible updated. Stopping and starting services, deleting caches etc. Nothing would fix it.

Turns out was just that I wasn't signed into my MS account in the Store...

There is absolutely no reason this couldn't be updated to show the correct reason for the error or more information. Instead you get the most generic possible error with nothing to follow for troubleshooting.

I'm not that angry at the message either.. It's that MS won't fix this. They won't update anything or change this continued disregard for the people dealing with their products day after day.

I hate you so much Microsoft. You are the devil in my life.
