Update for Realtek RTL8168C/8111C (NDIS 6.20) in Windows Update makes the network disappear
I installed the update for Realtek RTL8168C/8111C Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20) through Windows Update (released on th 30th April) and it simply broke the network (no longer detects the wired network). I had to uninstall the driver and make a Search hardware changes to install the default one Windows 7 brings (also NDIS 6.20). So please, don't offer this update in Windows Update (this is not the first time it happened to me) anymore. PS: Windows 7 RC x64

I got this problem and my driver is Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0).The driver caused losing Internet connection after 10 or 15 mins. I uninstalled the new one and installed the old one. The old driver so far works fine.Thank you

In my case this is also a problem for me in Vista so I think it is a general problem within the driver package from Microsoft.

In my case for a single Ethernet port the device list shows upto 20 such ports each time I upgrade the driver. So when Win 7 starts I have to manually first disable all ethernet ports and then enable one again to work ( ususally the 2nd or 3rd port) in order to connect to my home network/internet. I have tried various tricks like deleting all entries, uninstalling driver, etc. etc. I had the same problem in Vista and I was hoping that this would disappear once I moved to Win7 - but no joy. Each time I reinstall the driver a few new more ports get visible with status of cable disconnected etc.

I have a ASUS P6T, with built in NIC, installed this update, and lost all networking. I actually had to go back and use an older system recovery point to get my networking back. I did this twice, because it was still listed in Windows Update after the system recovery.Mark
