Update error 80244017
I get this error whenever I try to get updates at home. I have no such problem with this machine at work. No other machines at home have problems updating. Thoughts?

What's your version of Windows Vista you have? If it's RC1 5600, 5728 or RC2 , you won't be able to use Windows Update for beta copies, if you have final release check whether you're using a proxy server or not. Good luck

I am not using a proxy and have installed a full version of Vista with a clean system (no OS loaded due to fdisk being run). I did not get this error for the first week of use, then it started. I am running this on a Dell XPS system that is "Vista Capable" according to the windows sticker. I am a MSDN user and find no solution via standard support or MSDN.

Same thing here, anyone know what might be causing it? Upgraded from WSUS 2 to 3 and now getting several weird errors, this is the next one I need to fix. Later, RushB

Oh yeah, also getting 801901F4 intermittently. This is Vista Business trying to update to a WSUS 3 server. Later, RushB

Yes, I've also trying to update Vista Business via a WSUS 3 server. Sounds like a common denominator.

I have Windows Vista Business and after recently upgrading to WSUS 3.0, also have this problem. Would love an answer! Note added 4th Oct - I have since resolved my problems, which I think may have come down to a misconfigured ISA server. It has now been working fantastically well for some time off SBS 2003 R2 with WSUS 3.0. It is now totally automated and operating without fault. Sorry that I have no further comment to add to help the problems listed by others.

Trygiving IUSR (IIS Guest account) and IWAM (Launch IIS process) Read/Write/Execute permissions to <Drive letter>\WSUS\WsusContent. Should work straight away.
