Hi, Regarding this issue, it may be caused by the following factors: 1. The IE settings are corrupted. 2. There are some virus or spyware infection on the computer. 3. Some third-party programs conflict with IE. Please try the following suggestions: 1. Reset IE settings ============= 1. Click Start, Run, type: "INETCPL.CPL" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. 2. Switch to the Advanced tab. 3. Click the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" button. 4. Click Reset to confirm the operation. 5. Click Close when the resetting process has finished. 6. Uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions" option in the Browsing box. 7. Click Apply, click OK. Please close all the IE windows and then open the IE to check this issue. 2. Perform an online scan with the OneCare Online Scanner. ==================================== 1. Proceed to http://safety.live.com then click on the yellow button "Full Service Scan". 2. Click Accept on the Service Agreement. 3. Click "Install Now" button. NOTE: If installation is unsuccessful, click on the information bar below the address bar then click "Install ActiveX Control" 4. When a Security Warning dialog box appears, asking you if you want to install the Windows Live Safety Center Component scanner, please click Install. 5. Click on "Launch Scanner" button. 6. A secondary windowpane opens up titled Full Service Scan. a. Click on Next to proceed with the complete scan. b. A progress bar will appear showing the status of the scanning tools while its downloading. c. A Status: Scanning your computer appears with - Virus and spyware scan - Registry Cleaner Scan - Disk Cleanup scan - Disk Fragmentation Scan - Open Ports scan - Computer information d. After the scan, click on Next on the summary page. e. Status Window: Fixing process will start. f. Summary page will appear. Click on Next. NOTE: Share information with Microsoft has a check by default. g. Uploading report with Microsoft will proceed. h. You will see a message "Scan is Done." 3. Perform a Clean boot to have a check ========================= 1. Click "Start", click "Run", and in the "Open" line, type in "MSCONFIG" and click "OK". 2. Under the "Service" tab, check "Hide All Microsoft Services", and then click the "Disable All" button. In this way, we can disable all the services which belong to third-party programs. 3. Under the "Startup" tab, click the "Disable All" button. 4. Click "OK". 5. Choose "Yes" to restart the computer. 6. Check "Don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when Windows starts". And then please check if this helps. NOTE: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and checking on Normal Startup in the General tab. Actually, since the issue occurred on the Windows XP computer, it will be better to go to the Windows XP Forum for help: Windows XP Forum http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=2010&SiteID=17 Thanks!

I've been unable to run de Microsoft Live antivirus checking. McAfee antivirus hangs when I try to cjeck the C: drive for viruses at the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\Ramon\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Messenger\myself@hotmail.com\SharingMetadata\myfriend@hotmail.com I suspect that the Microsoft Live antivirus checking stops at the same location. Any ideas? Best regards.

Try deleting the stated file (you might need to do this in Safe Mode.)If you cannot delete the file (even in Safe Mode) because the file is locked, see what is locking the file with WhoLockMe (note that you'll need to boot back into Normal Mode to install the program.)If that still fails, then you should re-post your problem in the XP newsgroups (which were linked to earlier in this thread.)HTH, and, good luck!, Chris
