Unsharing a shared folder
Hey! Let me give you a brief introduction to my PC. It is running windows 7 home premium, has 2 hard-drives one of which contains all the windwos files, the program files and the documents etc etc. The other hard-drive contains a single folder which has inside video files and photographs. Before sharing, all the users on the computer were able to access that folder without any problems. I decided to share the folder over the wireless using the 'homegroup' function in windows 7 so that I could access those photos / videos from my laptop. Now, I've unshared the folder wirelessly, but whenever I disable sharing, none of the other users on the machine can access the folder. If I share it, it gets shared over the wireless network. Any help or advice as to how to return it to the original state would be much appreciated! Thanks =]

Right click on the folder that you want to share and go to properties and go to sharing and security (do this for machines that you want to share files from) next Go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings: Turn on network discovery, (Do all this for both machines) Turn on file sharing and printer sharing (Do all this for both machines **optional)---> If you want to share out a printer I turned off public folders its up to you (Do all this for both machines) ---> this means anyone that connects to your network can access these files/folders i turn them off because i like to know what being shared After that's all done Go to one machine type in address bar the other PC machine name so for ex if you open my computer on the win7 machine were it says "my computer" type ---> \\win7-PC then hit enter (if you don't know your PC name right click on my computer and go to properties > look for computer name, domain and workgroup settings > if you click change settings you can change your computer name requires a reboot) You should see the share folders. You can then set this as map drive to have quick access to it. If you don't see it under the network and sharing center advance sharing settings there's a password protect sharing turn that off Dominick

I don't think you understood my query as such. I can share the folder. But I'm having problem allowing other users on the same machine be able to access it when I stop sharing it! This folder is located in a second hard-drive on the same computer! And if I share it, it gets broadcasted all over my wireless network, which is something I don't want. I hope that makes it some what easier to understand?

Check the NTFS permissions on the folder. Right click on it and select Properties. Click the Security tab and make sure the security group Users is on the list. If not, add it and assign your access permissions. You may also want to check the drive's permissions and make sure Users is on that list too.

First, please check the suggestions in this article to check the HomeGroup settings: HomeGroup: frequently asked questions If the issue persists, could you please let us know the exact error message occurs when trying to access the folders. In the meantime, check the permissions to the previously shared folder. For more information, please refer to: What are permissions? Try Start, Computer and right-click the data (video drive), select the share with, advanced sharing and configure the access for the users you want to have access. Refer to Linda Yan's links for assistance. Start=>Help and Support=>type sharing in the search box and search will provide references also.
