I have created a VPN successfully between xp pro and Win 2000, however I have spent hours trying to figure out how to create a VPN between my Win Ultimate and server 2000 but been unsuccessful. The followings are what I know about this matter: Every time I try to create the VPN I receive the error “failed with error 53” The Laptop has a Win Home Prem OA label on it but runs a Win 7 Ultimate (Genuine). Hi, I get a little confused on your words. a windows 7 Ultimate 32bits laptop, a laptop with xp professional and a server 2003. I have created a VPN successfully between xp pro and Win 2000, however I have spent hours trying to figure out how to create a VPN between my Win Ultimate and server 2000 but been unsuccessful. What is the exact Windows Server you are running? Generally speaking, error code 53 is mostly caused by network problem. To troubleshoot the problem, I would like to suggest: 1. Ping the name of the server. 2. Ping the FQDN name. 3. Ping the IP address of the server. 4. Check the client DNS configuration, ensure that you have configured the correct DNS server. 5. Configure Windows 7 VPN to use the default gateway on remote network. 1) Go to “Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections”. 2) Right-click the VPN connection and click Properties. 3) Switch to Networking tab, click Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and then click Properties. 4) Click Advanced, click to select the Use default gateway on remote network check box, and then click OK. For step by step to setup VPN in Windows 7, please visit the following documents for reference: Remote Access Step-by-Step Guide: Deploying Remote Access with VPN Reconnect Best Regards Dale Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, Thank you very much for your replies. I apologise for replying so late. I have installed many pptps in vista and xp and never had problem. But this windows 7 does not let me to configure vpn. I follow all the instruction step-by-step. Everything looks ok. Pinging the server(IP and FQDN) is fine. But I still get the error. There is something which is making me think and that is what I have mentioned already: "The Laptop has a Win Home Prem OA label on it but runs a Win 7 Ultimate (Genuine)." Do you think this causes any complications? I am not sure if the installation has been performed using a proper window 7 dvd or just upgrade file installation. What do you think? Thanking you in advance.
