Occasionally, when I click on 'Turn Off Computer' (WindowsXP) at the end of a session, a message box appears. The message " Are you sure you want to turn off the computer, as there are other users logged on (to paraphrase). Can't be so because I'm the sole user of the computer, and not on a network. Is this an error, or IS there someone else logged on, by Internet access?1 person needs an answerI do too

How do you connect to the Internet? Do you have a wireless router and is it set up securely?MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

I connect to Internet by AT&T DSL. I do not have wireless, but direct wire.

Do you have a router? Other computers in the Local Area Network? Are sharing files/printers? If yes, then that's the reason. If no, turn file/printer sharing OFF (Windows Firewall). There is no way for an outsider to get into your modem and use your Internet connection if you only have a single modem. If OTOH you have something like a 2Wire combination modem/router then you need to get into its configuration and turn off the wireless.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

No router, no LAN, no sharing. Only this computer in the house, and it is connected by wire to AT&T DSL. So is the "message" an error?

Probably. There is no way for me to be 100% certain without being on-site. Make sure your file/printer sharing is set to OFF and that you are protected by a firewall. The built-in Windows one is fine. For added security, purchase a router to sit between you and the DSL modem even if you only have the one computer. And of course you will want to ensure your computer is virus/malware-free anyway. http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareMS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!

Thanks for your assistance. I have had Windows Live One Care since 2007, and I'm confident with its performance.
