Uninstalling Windows Defender with a twist
I have Windows XP Home. I just upgraded to Norton 360. ( My previous Norton Anti Virus worked fine) It stated I needed to uninstall Defender and stopped the install. I did by going to remove/add programs. However, Norton still sees something from MS defender. I went through my regedit and removed any reference to windows defender. Still no good. Windows Defender is not listed in MSCONFIG, or services or processes. I thought if I re-install defender then try again that it might help. Defended will not install. It says I must remove the old version first. I have no virus protection right now. I did try the Windows Installer utility removal program. It does not see Windows Defender. Please help.
