Uninstalled programs still listed after System Restore.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.I uninstalled a program. Then later, for another reason,I had to do a System Restore. After the System Restore, the previously uninstalled program was on the 'Control Panel - Uninstall or change a program' list.Obviously, the program is no longer installed on my PC, but I cannot remove it from the list.If I try, I get the message 'An installation report file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified.'

Hi mike-holden, You can try the following suggestions to remove the unwanted items from "Uninstall or change a program" list. Suggestion 1: Use Windows Installer Clean Up Utility =========== 1. Please download the Windows Installer Cleanup utility . Note: although it is released as a Microsoft Office update, it can be used to fix Windows Installer. 2. Right click on the downloaded msicuu2.exe file and then click "Run as administrator". 3. Follow the wizard to install it. 4. Then, please run it from "Start" then "All Programs" then "Windows Install Clean Up". 5. Please select the program you would like to uninstall and then click Uninstall. For more information, please refer to: Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. Suggestion 2: Edit the Registry =========== 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER. 2. Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall 3. After you click the Uninstall registry key, click Export Registry File on the Registry menu. 4. In the Export Registry File dialog box, click Desktop in the Save in box, type uninstall in the File name box, and then click Save. 5. Each key under Uninstall represents a program that appears in Add/Remove Programs. To determine which program that each key represents, click the key, and then view the following values: DisplayName - the value data for the DisplayName key is the name that is listed in Add/Remove Programs-and-UninstallString - the value data for the UninstallString key is the program that is used to uninstall the program 6. After you identify the registry key that represents the program that is still in Add/Remove Programs, right-click the key, and then click Delete. 7. Repeat step 1 to 5 to check the entries in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall 8. After you delete the key, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 9. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs. 10. In Add/Remove Programs, verify that the program for which you deleted the registry key is not listed. 11. If the program list is not correct in Add/Remove Programs, you can double-click the Uninstall.reg file on your desktop to restore the original list of programs in the registry. 12. If the program list is correct in Add/Remove Programs, you can right-click the Uninstall.reg file on your desktop, and then click Delete. Suggestion 3: Use CCleaner =========== Please download CCleaner and check if the item can be removed. Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability. Hope this helps. Regards, Linda

hello mike, You did a system restore after uninstalling the program. This would revert the system to the point where the program was installed. So, the program files should be reverted back on the system. I would like to know which is the program that you are not able to uninstall. Thanks, Praveen

Key point was you had previously uninstalled it, but now that you did a system restore, all programs will be back to original specs, so therefore the system is just what it was suppose to be. Just uninstall it again, just remember that anything you uninstalled will be back again if you do a system restore.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

There is no delete option. Only Uninstall/change.

Well then try installing the program from the original media, then uninstall it immediately thereafter. Then after that, reboot and see if its gone.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)!
