Boot into Windows XP and go to Disk Management. From there, delete the partition where Windows 7 is installed.

Thanks guys! Isen't there any way to remove Win 7 other than formating the partision? The reason i want to remowe it, it's because my Xp wouldent boot after installing win7. i had to rebuild boot for xp.

hi use msconfig to select xp as your default then highlite the windows 7 entry and delete it . Then select make entry permanent. and save. This will stop the boot menu showing windows 7. Next insert your xp disc and repair the boot mbr so its using ntldr again. You should now boot staright into xp as before. The only way to get rid of the windows 7 files is now to physcally delete them all from within xp or the easiest way is to go to disc management and reformatjust the partion windows 7 is on. If you have files you need to keep on there then justmove them off until after the format. The format option is quicker. I do not know why you do not want to do it that way perhaps you can explain. You are not reformatting the whole system. If you have already rebuilt the xp boot mbr then check in your config.sys and autoexec.bat for any references to windows 7. I doubt there will be any. Then all you have to do is format the 7 partition or delete all the 7 files. Do not format the whole disc. in disc management you highlite the windows 7 partition not the whole discthen right click and choose format. its that easy.

hi needed to add this to post If you have already repared xp boot then you have no need to do the msconfig thing although you could check config.sys and autexec.bat for nay references to another op system but i doubt there are any. In disc manager choose the windows 7 partition right click and choose format. do not choose the whole disc. if you are not sure ask for more advise.

Thanks malcp I have installed programs and games on the Win 7 partision before i installed the win7. I guess i just have to take a backup before formating, and put it back after formating.

Well, if you 'other' information on that partition, then simple follow malpc method for restoring XP and then just delete Windows 7 files from that partition.Joe

If yes, all you need to do is move 3 files from your XP partition root to your W7 root. The files are:boot.inintdetect.comntldrMake sure u uncheck "hide system operating files" in folder options to see these files. Your dual-boot system will function correctly again.
