Unidentified network in windows 7 RC build 7100
I am running WIndows 7 RC, build 7100 and since i have installed windows 7, i cannot get a internet connection through my router via a ethernet connection. It says "Unidentified Network: no internet connection" I can connect fine with wireless but i rely on the wired connection for downloads and such. I cannot find any solutions on the web, and the troubleshooter does not come up with any error/problems. I believe that it has something to do with not being able to identify the netwrok. Netwroking is not my strong point so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I was running Vista 32 and decided to try Windows 7 (7600) 64-bit. I received the Unidentified Network message as well.I updated ALL of my drivers, uninstalled all of my drivers, and even used old drivers. NADA.I tried Generic ethernet drivers. I tried disabling IPv6. I can ping the loopback, but cannot ping my router. Both of my XP PCs can. I wiped the computer three times and reinstalled Windows 7 with no luck.I am now back to Windows Vista 32 bit and pretty mad that I wasted money on an OS when the one I had was working fine. Oh! My router is Windows 7 compatible (checked it and added the latest firmware update). My mobo is an ASUS PN5SLI. 4g ram. Intel 2.13 Dual core CPU. Hopefully, there is a simple fix. I feel your pain ttechpriest.

"Unidentified network" seems to be misleading. As far as I can tell, it isn't actually a problem or error. It is simply Microsoft doesn't bother to give you a way to identify your LAN. Annoying, but not actually a problem. Not being able to connect to the Internet IS a problem. But it doesn't seem to have anything really to do with "unidentified network". Thinking you only have a LAN rather than an internet connection, it defaults to "unidentified network". But that's only because the internet connection isn't working and so it thinks you have only a LAN. If you can get the Internet connection working, it will identify that network as your internet connection.
