Unidentified network Windows 7
I have wireless router connected to att uverse router. My wireless devices are able to connect fine, but my wired desktop connected has stopped working properly. I get "unidentified network" which blocks connection to the Internet. It shows as a "Home Network" Based on feedback from forums, I have tried/checked: - reinstalling the network adapter - Adding Reliable Multicast Protocol - Ensured Obtain IP and DNS automatically for IP4 and IP6 protocols. Anything else I can try? Any extra info that would be helpful?

Thanks, Alex. First off, let me simplify the problem by taking the wireless router out of the mix. I plug the cable in to my laptop and can connect to the internet. I plug the cable in to my desktop and the above symptoms occur. The Windows 7 troubleshooter tries to repair the connection and then opens up a dialog that says "Invetsigate Broaband or modem router" along with some basic troubleshooting suggestions (unplug, restart, etc). I manually reset the ip per instructions above and I tried the applicable troubleshooting tips in the second link you suggested but no luck. Any other ideas? Could it just be a bad network card. I was initally thinking not, b/c the connection is there but Windows just sees it as an unidenified network.

Hi, It seems that the router settings could have something wrong. I suggest you reconfigure it by going to the router configuration page. You would read the device manual for more details. Meanwhile, if it is possible, please try another computer to see if the wired connection could work. Alex Zhao TechNet Community Support
