Unidentified network, wrong IP, no internet
Hello Yesterday I got a new computer with win 7. Plugged everything in and started it up with no problem, everything worked and I downloaded some updates and then went to reboot the computer. Now I'm hit with the unidentified network problem and the computer doesn't get a correct IP from the router. I got connection to local network but no internet access. Since this proble arised I have spent hours looking up different solutions, trying to sort it, sofar without any luck. I have uploaded my system information to skydrive http://cid-dad7371e59d414bd.office.live.com/browse.aspx/.Documents I hope that link works otherwise let me know and I'll try to fix it. The network is built around a zhone 6218-I2-xxx ADSL2+ 4 port WiFi Bridge/Router http://www.zhone.com/products/6218/. One ethernet port is defaulted for IP-TV from the isp and got a TV box connected, the other ethernets got a vista computer, a PS3 and the new win 7 computer. We also got two laptops connected through wierless, one vista and one win7. All the other machines work. Used network monitor to capture a try to release and renew the IP. http://cid-dad7371e59d414bd.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Documents/Thursday%202pm.cap Ipconfig /all gives the following results, unfortunatly it is in swedish if you need anything translated let me know and I'll do my best to make it understandable. Pondering buying a new network card and try that since there seem to be no solution to this at this time. Anyone got any idea if another card will solve the problem? A new network card didn't seem to do the trick. It is starting to look like there aint a fix for this problem at the moment. It is just so weird since it worked fine the first time I started the computer and we have managed to get it working 2 times since but it stops as soon as you have to reboot and what fixed it one time don't work the next time. Hi, The ipconfig /all command shows the gateway is unaccepted. Please make sure that the default gateway is the router’s IP address. You can also try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Bypass the router and connect to cable modem directly with wire for a test. 2. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has) and test the issue in Clean Boot. 3. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result. 4. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically ======================================= a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties". d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". e. Click "OK". f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". h. Click "OK". i. Reboot the computer. What's the result now? Regards, Sabrina

Hi, Click Start\Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center click on unidentified network (if it is yours) and select a location-HOME and follow the prompts. You need to set the location awareness for the network security. The above does that for you.

You've done all of this, plus a new network card and it's still not working? Have you checked to make sure the physical connection is good - meaning the ethernet cable itself? Just because the link light is lit it doesn't necessarily follow that the cable is entirely good. The firmware on some routers (Dlink for instance) has a simple diagnostic to see if there is a good physical connection between it and a device. You can see if yours has a similar feature by logging into your router from one of the working computers. If it doesn't have that feature, you can try plugging the cable into a different router port and seeing if that makes a difference. If it does, then your router has a dead port. If it doesn't, try a different ethernet cable. Make sure it's not a crossover cable.

I would assume the wires are ok as I had my old computer running on the same ones without any issues and the first time I started the new computer it worked flawlessly. After following all the advices I have gotten and found with searching the net I finally got it working. Not sure what it was that did it in the end but at least I got full internet access for the time being. Thank you all for your help.Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100226-1909) Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor (6 CPUs), ~3.2GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM Display device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
