I upgraded to vista couple weeks ago. When i had xp sp2 i could connect to my college wireless internet frm my laptop perfectly. But since i installed vista it doesnt connect and network and sharing center shows it as a "Unidentified network". i really dont knw wt to do but its driving me crazy sitting through lectures without internet!! If anyone has the solution plz tell me. appreciate it.

did you set up your connection & install the Vista drivers for your device?to check the driver go into device manager & make sure it is up to date

All my drivers are up to date. Its a Hp Dv9023 laptop. I checked all the drivers n they r up to date.

When you try to view a webpage, what does it say?Does it give you a specific error message?

im having the same problem, my network keep saying "Unidentified network" but im not connecting to any internet im just using a switch to connect 3 PC 1 vista home basic with 2 other pc....so how can i solve it.. can plz guide me?

When i try to open a webpage there isnt any error message it gives. Internet explorer goes to the default page it shows when it cant connect. It does give me some solutions of which none work.

I've had this problem since i put Vista on also. I am trying to connect to a Netgear (wired) router which in turn lets me see another computer and also connect to the net via the router. The only way i have got around this is to manually 'mess around' each time i login to vista.If you check your ip address (command prompt > ipconfig /all) you will see that you probably haven't got a lan ip, but a strange number (instead of 192.168.x.x) - a vista thing i think!1. right-click the network connection and go to the properties, then to IPv4 properties2. manually specify ip address for net access and so on (put in your 192.168.x.x address)3. apply settings and it will try to id the netwrok again...probably only finding the router and maybe some computers on the lan4. next go back to the properties of the network connection and set the IPv4 properties BACK to as they where - 'to obtain ip address automatically' - and apply settingsNow, sometimes (most times) my pc detects the router and the net this time, but sometimes i have to change from public to private network (or vice-versa) and do all that again Like i said, it's a lot of messing about but it's a temp solution (all-be-it a crap one) but it gets you on the lan and net. I've contacted Netgear and M$ about this issue and posted on a number of forums and have had no luck getting anywhere with this problem! If anyone else find the cure...PLEASE let me know!There is also a reg entry that you could try changing - something like a broadcast value...check M$ knowledge base for it - which cures some of these cases..but not mine sadly! There is also a refresh command for obtaining ip address from the router or comp that dishes them out....chekc net, can't remember it...didn't work for me Hope this helps.

hey...m not sure how much help i can be but i had te same prob in my laptop..i connect using wireless in my uni and for me it used to come unidentified network too...btw i have vista too....te tech guy in te uni changed some value in te registry ..he says some change in registry between xp and vista is causing this problem.m sorry i don kno exactly wat he changed..hope this helps.....
