Unidentified Network No Internet Access - Identifying... No Netwok Access -Error Showing on Network Icon In System Notification Area
Hi. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on a Dell Studio XPS. Verizon modem model 6100G. Intel Gigabyte on-board Ethernet. I have Internet access, despite Wintows saying the contrary. I'd just like to get rid of that error icon (Networking). I'm hoping someone can pick this up and work it out with me.

Do you use several NICs in your PC? Windows combines the status into the icon. So if one NIC has no access you get the icon."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

Hi Andre, Thanks for responding! I have one network interface ethernet card in my machine and one Verizon ADSL modem model 6100G and a Linksys wireless router WRT-54G. At the moment there is no error showing on the network icon. When I hover on it, I get a box saying "Network 3 - Internet Access; Unidentified network - No Internet Access. Network and Sharing Center shows no blocks from my computer to the internet. I didn't do anything to fix this, though, and I'm worried that there's still an underlying problem. It would be hard if I lost the Internet again. Another part of the picture is that the wireless router is not hooked up to my system, but as that is a complicated procedure I'll beg my friend to help me with it. In the meantime, it looks like my Internet connection has fixed itself. If it comes up again I'll write here if I can. Thanks again. Steve

Hi Andre, I uninstalled a virtual machine program that was maintaining two network connections and I'm left with just the one working Internet connection. The Networking icon is good - no error. Networks and Sharing is showing only the one network connected to the Internet and no other networks existing (virtual machine networks), so things look very good and at this point I don't see any additional problems. I was able to re-boot without a networking error icon. Thanks for your suggestion and for "looking in" on me. Best wishes and a happy New Year. Steve
