Unidentifiable Network
I am just plain baffled at why Windows 7 Pro (on a Windows 2003 R2 domain) tells me that I am connected to an unidentifiable network, have no internet access, and even though I am a local admin on this PC it will not let me change any of this. I can connect to all available network resources and access the internet without a problem. Other than Outlook 2007 taking intirely too long to connect to the Exchange 2003 server sometimes, everything works fine. Do I need a gigabit connection to make Exchange access better? It always worked great with XP. I don't want to downgrade if I can help it. Thanks very much for any suggestions! Flux

I am having the exact same problem. I am unable to change the network type from public. Whenever I try to force network discovery on, the settings do not save after clicking save changes. The home group services will not start even after manually trying to do so. I don't understand what is going on, the pc was able to connect a couple of weeks ago, but now, nothing. Always showing connected to a public network, but limited connectivity. Any help would be great.

Hi Fluxblocker, Can you access Internet on Windows 7 machine now? If not, how do you connect to Internet, via Wireless or wired cable? If Internet still cannot be accessed, please try the following steps. 1. Upgrade the NIC driver to the latest one and assign a static IP address or DNS address. 2. Bypass the router or switcher and connect to DSL Modem directly via wired cable to check whether Internet can be accessed. 3. Temporarily turn off firewall or antivirus program for a test. Hope this helps. Novak

No, that's not what I said. I DO HAVE internet access and am also able to access all network resources on our intranet (network shares, etc.), HOWEVER, in network sharing center, it SAYS I'm connected to an unidentifiable network with no internet access. However this morning - well, whatever I did Friday must have fixed it, even though at the time it didn't appear to fix anything. Today it no longer shows up as unidentifiable, and it no longer says I don't have internet access. I removed every other "network" (last Friday) except the valid windows domain that the computer is a member of. Maybe that fixed it. Thanks for the responses. I hope this will help if anyone else is having a similar issue. Flux
