Unexplained problem at windows 7 startup
I'm not very sure how to describe my windows 7 problem.Once i started up and enters into my window 7, It will auto-connect me to my home network and do all the standard things (etc MSN). After a while, without me doing anything, my start menu cannot work, I cannot get my task manger to response to my command. I cannot alt+tab. In short, I cannot do anything.Although I can still use ie browser that was opened immediately after start up. The only available action left for me is shut down.Currently my solution is as follows: As my word document was not save, I can choose if i want to force shut down it. I choose no and I can then continue use my window. So any expert out there that can help me with this problem was help me a lot. I really don't want to re-install my windows 7. For information, I just started using windows 7 on my sony vaio for only 1 week after upgrading it from vista home premium. I still practically at factory setting.

Looks like you have some sort of malware issue... Do you have an antivirus program installed on your computer? If not, go and download MS Security Essentials. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

I agree, something isn't right because it shouldn't start up MSN (Or IE for any reason). You could always choose to insert the CD and choose to repair your installation. Please tell me that this IE opening didn't occur the first day you used your machine after the installation as I suspect you went to some website that installed something you didn't want. So I agree with Eugene and although I've never used Security Essentials, its sounds like a good idea. What exactly are you using for your AV scanner? Have you installed ANY add-on's for IE? Another suggestion I have is to boot into SAFE mode and see if these problems still exhibit this behavior (before you do anything else). By chance do you have a restore point created say right after you've installed Windows 7? You could try restoring to that point to see if the problems still exist.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

I'm using avest anti-virus. Maybe I should run a complete scan.... Kind of think about it, the problem started after i tried out a data recovery software(Files_Data_Recovery_2.9) i downloaded from download.com, which i have since uninstalled it. But I don't think i have restore points.... I see what happen after the scan and keep you guys posted. Thanks for the help.

Hi Xaverria, As mentioned in the previous posts, the issue can be caused by the factors including virus, spyware infection. Please run AVEST software to scan the system and see if the issue can be resolved. If the issue persists after the scan, please also see if System Restore works fine: System Restore ============= 1. Click the Start Button, type "system restore" (without quotations) in the start search box and press enter. 2. Click "Choose a different point" and click next. 3. Check Show more restore points box. 4. Choose a date, and click Next. 5. Click Finish. If the issue persists or if there is no System Restore point available, please try the following troubleshooting steps to check the result: - Go into Safe Mode (Restart computer, press the F8 key when the boot menu pops up, select [Safe Mode], and boot up) and check if the issue still occurs. - If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, please see if it occurs in Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. What is the result? If the issue persists, please provide the HiJackThis log by the steps below: Collect HiJackThis log ============== 1. Please download HijackThis from the following link: http://www.techspot.com/download317.html HijackThis is a tool to collect some system settings information which is useful for further troubleshooting. Please Note: The third-party products discussed here are manufactured by vendors independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability. 2. Right click the downloaded HJTInstall.exe file and choose "Run as administrator". Provide administrator password or click Allow if you are prompted to do so. 3. Click the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" Button. 4. A Notepad window will appear, please click File, Save As... to save it as HJT.log (or other file name you like) on the Desktop and upload to SkyDrive at www.skydrive.live.com. Regarding SkyDrive: 1. As an important note, if you do not want others to access the uploaded files, when uploading the file, please expand the "Share with" box, choose "Select people...", and thentype my Windows Live ID "v-linyan@hotmail.com" (without the quotation marks) in the Individual box. For detailed steps on how to upload files with SkyDrive, please refer to: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65 2. The above Windows Live ID is ONLY for collecting troubleshooting information. Please do NOT send your questions to it. For any new questions, please post in the forums so that more MSFT, MVP and community members can help you. Regards, Linda
