Unexpected Error Configuring Network Bridge
I am trying to setup a network bridge on my XP Pro HTPC system to allow me to connect my Sony Blu-Ray player (which has an ethernet connection) to my HTPC and thus my DHCP home network via an unused NIC port on the HTPC (since I only have one network drop in the room, I need both devices to share the same ethernet cable). The 2 NICs in question are an Intel 1000GT PCI adapter and an onboard SiS 10/100 NIC. When trying to create the bridge by choosing both connections, right-clicking and choosing "Bridge Connections" from the context menu, I get the error described in the title. I have already taken all steps mentioned in Microsoft's bridge setup guide and verified that ICS and the Firewall are disabled on both connections (I've never used either feature anyway as I have a Linksys router in my wiring closet to share my internet connection). I've reset both the TCP/IP stack and Winsock. I've reinstalled drivers on both NICs and have even did a WMI rebuild (based on a tip from another website) - but with no success. Does anyone have any other ideas on what might be causing this? I suppose I could just buy a cheap hub/switch to share the line - but why do that when I can aggravate myself with such a simple solution? :)1 person got this answerI do too

Hi Rnshamilton, Thanks for posting. Just a couple of questions before I can get you a proper answer. First being, what kind of blu-ray device are you trying to bridge to the XP machine? Also, does the device require communication to the internet, or simply just packet passing between itself and the XP machine? Do you have any other computers on the network that are leasing IPs from your DHCP router? Is it possible to hook another PC up in the room to test the bridge? Doing this would tell us if there is an issue with the bridge setup, or if there is an incompatibility or setting on the Blu-Ray player that needs to be changed.
