Unableto map W 2000 drives on W 7 system
I have 2 computers on a home network 1 running W 2000 Pro and the other one was running Vista. While I had Vista on my newer machine it was completely able to map the drives on the W 2000 system. I "upgraded" the Vista machine to W 7. Now when I go to map the W 200 Pro drives onto the W 7 machine it fails the password - even though I haven't changed the password on the W 2000 Pro machine. Can you map W 2000 Pro drives on a local network to W 7? What do I need to do?Thanks

When you get prompted for a password, choose the option, if available, to "Use another account" the format should bemachinename\username and then the password for that user. In other words, TheNameOfTheWin2kMachine\UserNameOnThatMachine and then the password for that user on that machine, check the box that says remember credentials and let us know if that works

I suggest you temporary disable the firewall and check the result again. If the issue persists, please follow the steps to change NTLM authentication level. 1. Launch regedit from Start Search box.2. Find the following branch. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a DWORD key under Lsa and set: Name: LmCompatibilityLevel Value: 1 4. Restart.Arthur Xie - MSFT

It did not work for me; any otheer suggestions? I was able to log into the drive (before and after your suggested fix) but not into the share. Before with my XP system I only had to log into the drive and it would make all the shares available. The message I get says I may not have access and to contactmy administrator (I am the administrator-small office network) and below says something about the system not allowing the same name to log in more than once. Any help will be appreciated. Keykeh
