Unable to use internet
Installed windows 7 beta as an upgrade to vista sp1, and am unable to use the internet. I have updated drivers for my network card (trendnet TEG-PCITXR), and am able to connect to ping local ips and various websites and get responses, but when I open up IE, firefox, skype, try to run windows update, report experiences with windows 7, etc, I come up short.

A couple of questions: Can you ping any websites by name by typing something like ping www.microsoft.com From the post it appears that you canCan you open certain websites from your browser and have them render? From the post it sounds like you canIf you can see some web sites but not windows update, then you may want to try to see if there is a hosts file entry which does not allow you to resolve windows update. you can try to look at your hosts file and make sure that there are no entries that point windowsupdate.com or update.microsoft.com

I can ping websites by name, and I can ping my router.I cannot open any websites (including my router's local configuration page) from either IE or Firefox; the statusbar reads something to the effect of "website found, waiting for reply" or something (I'll get the exact message when I get back home), but it times out or something (once again, I'll get more specific when I get home).

Well, I'm able to ping my router and windows has no problem getting gateway and dns information, so we may have different problems, but I'll try configuring my copy of outlook to download pop3 messages when i get home, to see if I have similar success.

Well, the problem was the web access protection in my E-SET AV protection set up. After disabling it I can ping all addresses as well as browse, However only with Firefox -- Still failing to browse with explorer 8.Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

IE8: Website found. Waiting for reply...Also, I have found that I cannot ping www.microsoft.com. Google still pings fine. It does not appear to be the winsock corruption error, as had been suggested.

Also, the problem is not antivirus software. I am trying another thread's suggestion to use the latest nightly build of firefox, but as my problem is not localized to browsers, as in the other thread, I don't know what to expect.

I've decided to take the coward's way out, and did a clean install. It was quick, it was painless, and I'm posting through IE8 in Windows 7 right now, so the problem appears to be solved. I would have liked to be able to help iron out a more ideal solution, but not having internet on my desktop was really getting to me.
