Unable to take permissions of and delete registry keys
I am developing a driver for my communications device and I have some junk that got stuck in the registry that is preventing me from fully testing the installation. I cannot remove it. In the old days you used to be able to go into the registry and change the permissions of the key then delete it. That doesn't work. I have tried the "take ownership" method and that doesn't work. I have also tried the my.scr method and that doesn't work as well. Can anyone tell me how to delete a junk registry key? In case it helps the key in question is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\FSCC_00040000_0

Try running regedit as administrator. Go to c:\Windows Right click on regedit.exe and select "Run as Administrator".

Running as Administrator was the first thing that I tried, that doesn't work either. Does Windows 7 protect the registry much more than its predecessors? So much so as to wholly prevent some keys from being deleted?

I am sorry that I have left this thread for a while, I got pulled away and temporarily forgot about this problem. In the old days (before Windows 7) you used to be able to edit the security settings of a particular registry folder and set the permissions on that folder to "Full Access" for Everyone and then you could delete it. If I run these setps I cannot delete the registry key in question: Run regedit as Administrator Browse to the registry key in question (HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\FSCC_00080000_0) Right click on the registry folder and choose Permissions Check the box next to Full Control for Everyone click OK Delete the registry folder Error message: Unable to Save Perission changes on FSCC_00080000_0. Access Denied. Previously that would have let me change the permission and then I could delete the key.
