Unable to stay connected via Wireless Router Belkin54g
Hello,I recently dl'd W7RC and upgraded from the W7Beta. I never had any issues with the beta version, but now I am unable to stay connected via my wireless network router. I initally installed the 64-bit version and had the same issue, so I uninstalled and installed the 32-bit. However, same issue, I am unable to stay connected. I power cycled my router and modem and the network simply goes m.i.a. It will be connected upon start-up but then drop after 2-3 minutes of usage. I have since uninstalled W7RC and restored my OS to Vista. I am using a Acer Extensa 4620Z with a Belkin Wireless router model #: F5D7234-4 v3I see that this appears to be a common issue, any troubleshooting support is appreciated

Hello Louis,You can set a static IP address for your wireless adapter and then in your router create a reservation for the MAC address of the wireless card. In the properties for the network you are connecting to, are the settings on Automatically connect whenthis network isin range?

Hi Louis,Please run Windows Update and confirm that you are running the latest updates for your wireless network adapters. If you have the latest updates and you are still seeing problems, please reply with (some info might have been already included in your post): --- make/model of the Wi-Fi card. You can get this by typing "netsh wlan sho dr" on the command prompt ----make/model of your Wi-Fi router --- problem symptoms and step by step reproduction steps for problem to happen. It would help greatly if you can write down the exact messages you see Best,YanMicrosoft Corporation

Hi SaMcp1123,Thank you for responding. My settings are configured to automatically connect to the router that is in range. When I use W7RC, it will show up upon start-up, connect, but then drop out and I am left with no connections available. I would like to attempt to reinstall W7RC as long as I can figure out this issue beforehand. How would I set a static IP address as well as creating a res for the MAC address?Thank you!

Hello Louis,To create a static IP open Netwrok and Sharing Center and click change adapter settings. Right-click your wireless adapter and select properties, in the list of connection protocols select IP v4 and click properties. Set the IP address as follows: IP address: 192.168.2.10X (for X anything 101-150 will be fine, Belkin uses the 192.168.2.XXX IP set)Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.2.1If you plan to re-install Windows 7 then my suggestion would be to power cycle your router and cable modem while the install is running and let the DHCP function try to assign you an IP first. If that should fail then set the static IP.To create a router reservation you need to enter the wireless adapter's MAC address into the DHCP tab of the router's setup page.

Hi Louis,Seems you are using a pretty old Broadcom driver.Driver: Broadcom 802.11g Network AdapterVendor: BroadcomProvider: BroadcomDate: 12/19/2006Version: 4.102.15.61We have seen issues like this before with old Broadcom driver. Basically the system may occasionally experience a drop in connectivity followed by an inability to re-connect at all after that. The frequency of the issue may vary from being very consistent (every few minutes) to never occurring. The only work-arounds are to either disable/enable the device or reboot the machine. So you may want to use the inbox driver for the nic and see if the issue persists or nt.Yan
