Unable to share folders and files
I am running Vista Home Premium sp2 on a Dell XPS 430 64 bit machine. I am having two problems that think are related. First, I noticed that I can’t set files or folders to share. When I try, I get an error, “An error occurred while trying to share XXXXXX . There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper”, XXXX being the name of whatever I’m trying to share After some poking around, I noticed that in the network properties, File Sharing, Printer Sharing, and Network discovery were off. When I tried to start them, I got an error “The Specified service does not exist as an installed service”. But when I look at the network properties for my connection, it is showing File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft networks as being installed and checked. Both the Server and Workstation services are running. I have searched on Microsoft and a few other sites, but haven’t been able to find anything relevant. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe you could try to reinstall that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft networks item, see whether it helps. dawooddoe Home Network & Wireless Network Help

Thanks, but I already tried that. It seems that all of the hits I've read having to do with the endpoints involved conneciting to servers, mostly older ones like Server 2003 or server 2000. I haven't seen anything connecting tis error with trying to set a folder to share. I am running Zonealarm as a firewall, but I've tried the do the share bit with Zonealarm shut down and get the same result. John. M. Cheek

Hi, Please perform a Clean Boot to narrow down the problem. 1. Click Start, and click Run msconfig. The System Configuration Utility appears. 2. In the General tab, click Selective Startup. 3. Uncheck the processing options that are listed below Selective Startup except "Load System Services." 4. Click Apply, and then click Close. 5. Restart the computer and test if the issue persists. If the issue persists, please use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue, and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow. 2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. Refer the following link for more information: How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 Regards, Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. I am also now experiencing this same issue with Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit... I have existing shares setup that continue to function perfectly, but when trying to create a new share I get the "there are no more endpoints available" error... In all my working with Windows NT based systems and believe me that's a lot we have never run into this problem... Other than that this particular system runs like a top... I am so over doing clean installs, everything is set, and this is how I want it as someone mentioned earlier... Is there REALLY no Microsoft guru that can provide a solution to this on the "Microsoft" Technet site... This is clearly now an issolated issue at this point... Thanks in advance, I'm holding off on the format, truth is, as much as I would like to agree with Mr Harmon about going MAC or Linux, I have simply WAY too many specific apps that I've used for ever to make a change on a workstation... You bet your a** for the record there isn't a server in my administration with Windows on it, imagine getting that error on a server, ahahahahahahahaha (some of my Linux Samba servers haven't been rebooted in over a year)!!!
