Unable to see other Vista machine on new network.
HiI have just changed around my network. I was previously using the built in DNS and firewall capability of my cable modem and had this hooked up to a simple switch. With this setup both my Vista machines could easily see each other and I had no issues sharing files.Due to a number of reasons I have changed the config of my cable modem to make it just a pass-through modem and bought a router (SMC Barricade-G) to manage the network and firewall tasks. When setting up, due to the cabling in my house I was also forced to keep the original switch in the network to service a couple of remote devices, including the one of the Vista machines. The setup up is modem to WAN port of router, 1 Vista computer and a NAS device connected to local ports on router. Switch connected to local port of router with other Vista machine and another NAS device connected to the switch. Now neither vista machine can see the other. If I view the full network map from the Network and Sharing Centre I can see both Vista machines but with two switches in between. The other interesting thing is that I cannot ping one Vista machine from the other but am able to ping any of the NAS devices on the network regardless of where from. The only difference is the NAS devices have a fixed IP address whilst the Vista machines are assigned their IP address by the DNS server in the router.Any suggestions on how I can resolve this?ThanksGrant.

Hi Grant, Thank you for posting. Before moving on troubleshooting, could you please confirm the following questions? 1. Are these computers in the same subnet and workgroup? 2. Can you ping other computers by using IP address? If possible, could you please run command IPCONFIG /ALL on every computer and post the results on the forum. Once I get information, I will do a further research on the problem. Thank you for your cooperation.
