Unable to see Previous Versions (Shadow Copies) on Network Drives
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise edition, it is on the domain, and I have several Network Drives mapped. The network drives are connections to Windows Server 2003 systems. My issues is, I am unable to see any Previous Versions on those network drives. However, I am able to see previous versions on my local drives, so I know Volume Shadow Copies is working on my system. In addition, I am able to see Previous Versions on those same network drives in Vista, and XP, just not with my Windows 7 system.

For Windows 2003 server you need to enable VSS on drives where you need it...

I may not be completely understanding, but VSS is already working on the Windows 2003 Server. Any other OS, with the exception of Windows 7, can see the VSS on those same drive mappings.

It appears the issue in not necessarily with the Windows 7 OS, but rather the NetApp filer we are using. I have verified VSS works on other Windows Server 2003 network shares that are not on the NetApp filer.

Agidding. Did you figure out the issue with Netapp? We are having the same issue with our Netapp filer and windows 7.

I don't know if anyone found a answer to this, but I have a similar problem.
I noticed when I look at the previous versions on any network drive that is pushed to my computer (example: my home folder on the network) I can see the previous versions. However, if I map a drive from my computer to the network I can not see
the previous versions on those folders.

NetApp has logged a bug for this issue:
http://now.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=373136
Bug ID 373136
Title Previous-versions tab does not list entries on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
Duplicate of
Bug Severity 3 - Serious inconvenience
Bug Status Fixed
Product Data ONTAP
Bug Type CIFS
Description
When Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 clients are used to access CIFS shares
offered by Data ONTAP, and if the older SMB 1.0 protocol is being used, then
the Windows Explorer "Previous Versions" tab for files or folder properties may
fail to list any existing previous versions.
Workaround
If circumstances permit, the problem may be avoided by use of the newer
SMB 2.0 protocol.
Notes
Before enabling the SMB 2.0 protocol, make sure that the release of
Data ONTAP in use is not susceptible to the bug 356893.
Fixed-In Version
* Data ONTAP 7.2.7P1 (First Fixed) - Fixed
* Data ONTAP 7.3.3 (GD) - Fixed
* Data ONTAP 7.3.5 (GA) - Fixed
* Data ONTAP 8.0.1 (GA) - Fixed

I am currently running a version of ontap that is labeled as "Fixed", but previous version is still not working from Windows 7 or 2K8 R2.
Anyone else have a fix? I am a little scared to enable smb 2.0 without some research.
