Unable to search from search bar or from within browser after patch KB2735855
I've got ~100 Windows 7 workstations getting their windows update patches from our in-house WSUS server. After installing KB2735855 (found this through trial and error), my users are no longer able to search via the search bar in the top right or via the BING search on their MSN homepage in Internet Explorer 8 or 9. The window comes up with: --------------------------------------------------------------- Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems <--Button More Information: <-- Expandable Link This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including: Internet connectivity has been lost. The website is temporarily unavailable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. There might be a typing error in the address. If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section. -------------------------------------------------------------- The patch includes a replacement tcpip.sys file along with a couple other files. I don't know why it only affects Internet Explorer (that I've noticed), but it does. I can search all day long using the latest Firefox. If I remove the patch, all is well again, the search functionality yields results like it is supposed to. If I re-apply the patch, the problem is back. Continually pressing F5 will sometimes eventually produce a page, but not always. I think my best option right now is to uninstall this patch. I've not read any where else about people having this problem. Anyone else having the same problem?

Hi, Firstly, if you do not run an application that is developed by using Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) API, Im afraid that you may not need to apply this hotfix. However, if this hotfix is needed, please try the following and see how it works. 1. Try method 4 and 6 in "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error in Internet Explorer. 2. Check if resetting Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) can help you. If issue persists, it is recommended to use Fiddler or Network Monitor to troubleshoot the issue. Firstly, if you do not run an application that is developed by using Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) API, Im afraid that you may not need to apply this hotfix. As far as I know, we're not using any applications developed using WFP. Even if we did though, the same problem would still exist wouldn't it? Why has Microsoft released this as a standard Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 patch then? I've removed the patch via WSUS from all of my workstations. I checked my personal computer at home and it has the patch installed, yet not having any of the issues I reported before. At work, we have ESET NOD32 for antivirus (which I don't have at home). I'm pretty sure that NOD32 hijacks the tcp/ip connection to monitor certain ports for known viruses. Perhaps it is having issues with the new TCPIP.sys driver file? Thanks, Brett

Ahh Hah! It turns out that it is an issue with NOD32. Here's a link regarding this: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=332922
