Unable to save file to remote server in Windows 7
My site is hosted on a server with Frontpage Extensions installed. As such, I can edit my html files directly on the server, but also I have been able to open Excel files that are located on the server, update them and then save them directly to the server itself. That was when I used Windows XP. Within Windows XP I had added my site via 'My Network Places' and so could open the xls files within the 'Open' dialogue box in Excel (2007), , click on 'My Network Places' and then double-click my site and login to view the xls files that I want to edit. Since I have switched to Windows 7, I find that I can no longer do this. I have added my site as a 'Network Location' in Windows 7, but if I log into my site either via Windows Explorer or within Excel, there are no files listed - it is just blank. I can open a file in Excel if I type in the exact url address for it in the 'Open' dialogue box, but when I try to save it, I find that I cannot save it to the server - the error message is "Document not saved". I really don't want to go back to Windows XP, so is there a way to restore the functionality that I had in XP - editing and saving Excel files to my server - within Windows 7? Thanks.

Hi, May I know the Operating System of the host server? Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Check if you can access the folder of files with “\\computer name\folder”. 2. Ensure you have given Windows 7 proper permission to access this folder. 3. In Windows 7, please try the following: 1) Open Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\ 2) Create LMCompatibilityLevel (DWord) and set the value to 1. For more information, please also refer to: LmCompatibilityLevel 4. Adjust sharing settings to see if it helps: 1) Go to “Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings”. 2) Under “File sharing connections”, select “Enable File Sharing for Devices that Use 40 or 56-bit encryption”. 3) Under “Password protected sharing”, select “Turn off password protected sharing”. 4) Ensure Network Discovery and File and printer sharing are on. 5) Save above changes. Since it worked in Windows XP, if possible, you can try Windows XP Mode: Download Windows XP Mode Considering this issue is also related to the Frontpage Extensions, it is also recommended that you contact the support for the Frontpage Extensions for help. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
