Unable to resolve DNS when trying to connect to domain
Hi I'm creating a Small Business network and I just tried adding a Windows 7 Ultimate workstation to my Windows Enterprise Server 2003 domain but when I go to add it to the domain, it will prompt me for account credentials for the domain (to which I put the Administrator username and the administrator password) but it prompts me with an error message saying that it couldn't resolve the DNS name (even though it prompted me for credentials when I put the domain name in). I was able to add other XP workstations to the domain without issue. Both the Windows 7 workstation and the Domain Controller are attached to the same SOHO router. This is the first time I have installed Windows 7 on one of our workstations and haven't used Windows 7 that much at all.

Hi Harvest_admin, We need more inforamiton to troubleshoot this issue. Please refer to the following setps to enable debug logging for the Net Logon servicehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/109626Then, please update the log to Skydrive(skydrive.live.com). If there are sensitive information in the log, please let me know. I will create an internal channel to receive this log fine. Thank you for your cooperation.

Is the domain controller the DNS server or is the SOHO router? For Active Directory to function properly the workstations must use an Active Directory DNS server. There should be no other DNS servers in use. With XP it would sort of work with misconfigured DNS. Vista and Windows 7 will not. Can you post the results of ipconfig /all from the workstation that can't join the domain?Kerry Brown MS-MVP - Windows Desktop Experience

Yeah I have the SOHO router acting as the DNS, I will try to set the Domain Controller as the DNS and let you know the results.
