Unable to renew IP address for Wireless connection
Hi,I'm trying to connect with my new laptop (HP Pavilion dv6000) to my wireless network. The network works perfectly (I can connect perfectly with the Ethernet cable, and wirelessly with my iPhone), the network is detected on the laptop; however, when I attempt to connect, I get the "Unable to renew IP address" error message, and cannot connect to the internet. A week or so ago I managed to reset the TCP/IP stack and get online, but now I get the error message again. After once again resetting the TCP/IP and restarting, I'm still getting the "Unable to renew IP address" error message.I know the network connection is established, the router’s wireless, DSL and internet connections are in good working order (ie. Green light). Regarding the network -- it's protected (WPA2), but does broadcast its' SSID. I know the Network Key is correct.Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this issue? Here are some of the key details involved. What type of wireless router are you using? Name and model?I have a NETGEAR 54Mbps Wireless ADSL2 + Modem Router DG834G v5. Have you tried connecting your laptop directly to the router via a patch cable? If so, are you able to establish a good connection or still limited? If still limited, what happens when you connect directly to the wall jack or modem?I'm not quite sure what this is asking but I am able to establish a good working internet connection with the router using the Ethernet cable. Have you been experiencing this problem from the start, or did your computer initially connect with no problems?I had excellent wireless connection for a few weeks then I started experiencing problems with renewing the IP address. "Unable to renew the IP address". I spent hours researching the problem and isolated it to the laptops IP setting as I have my iPhone has no problems connecting through the wireless connection. I then refreshed my TCP/IP settings using the command prompt <netsh ip reset ipreset.log> and rebooted my laptop and router (I had to do this several times before it was successful) and it worked for a day until the problem reappeared.I don't know if this makes any difference but I live in a multi dwelling apartment block that offers free Wifi (it's slow and unreliable hence my personal connection) this is what I am using to connect at the minute. Could it be that I am refreshing TCP/ IP stack for this connection and not my personal one? Also, what type of Windows OS are you using? Windows 7? Windows Vista? Windows XP?Windows XPAny assistance/ advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated as I have run out of ideas.Regards, Peter 1 person got this answerI do too
