Unable to remove ad-hoc network
I'm using Vista Business SP2. I had set up an ad-hoc network (including ICS) but I then had problems with my PDA to access it. After a while I gave up (but that's not the problem I want to discuss here). After this I wanted to remove this ad-hoc network, but this did not work - and even after googling around I did not find any working hint to remove it. The funny thing is I succeded to removed the profile using "Manage Wireless Networks", but still the ad-hoc network remains active. Reboot did not help neither... Using "netsh wlan show profiles" I can see the profile is gone, but nevertheless the ad-hoc networks keeps showing up on the window "Connect to a network" (and also at the end of the output of "netsh wlan show all")!! Last but not least I tried a "System Restore " (to a restore point before I set up the ad-hoc network of course) but with no effect!! The ad-hoc network still shows up! So what should I try next??

Go to Control Panel > Classic View > Network and Sharing Center > Customize > Merge or delete network location > Highlight the network then click Delete.

I have exactly the same problem but in Windows 7 x64 ? Where can I find this "Merge or delete network location" in Windows 7? As you probably know Windows 7 doesn't have classic view in control panel anymore :/

If you want to remove a network in Windows 7, go to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks (in the left pane) and right-click the one you want to Remove and choose Remove network.

that's not really helping since "manage wireless networks" does not display and created ad-hoc networks but instead only the wirless networks available at the time. apparently my computer (win7 64bit) automatically provides the ad-hoc network i created ages ago but i'm unable to stop it from doing that. thankfully i was clever enough to encrypt the network when i created it.

Hey, if you need to get to the 'Manage Wireless Networks' tool, it is indeed a bit hard, since MS chose to make this unaccessible via conventional means. However, they didn't remove the tool. There's a way to get a shortcut that lets you open the tool. Download it here: http://www.sevenforums.com/attachments/tutorials/27054d1252402753-manage-wireless-networks-shortcut-create-manage_wireless_networks.zipSorry I didn't see your issue sooner... Hopefully it's not too late.

I had the smiler problem with windows 7 and an ad-hoc network for my ipod's. The silution I found was that the ipod was keeping the connection open so I swithched off the wifi on the ipod's and the ad-hoc network switch off on my pc. I then setup a new one and switched the ipod's wifi back on all is working well. So long story short try switching off your PDA wifi or other device that may have had a connection.

If you don't have 'Manage Wireless Networks' try 'Change adapter settings' then disable each connection profile. Wait a few mins for all to be disabled... then re-enable them (all or just the ones you need). Old mappings that are no longer valid should be gone.

Disabling the adapter and putting back on after few seconds helped a lot. Thanks
