Anyone else having this issue? Checked with networking guys, they can see the layer 2 (MAC) on routers, but no ip addresses. The PCs think they have IP addresses and are listed in DNS and DHCP, but not on routing tables of routers. No port errors. Any help appreciated.

@flayofish-you said the network team can see the MACs, but no IPs. The MAC tables should show what ports the MACs were learned on. I would take a look at the arp tables on the Windows 7 computers (arp -a), do you see any entries for other computers in the same segment? Have you verified that this is not a simple Windows Firewall issue where you are just blocking ICMP? You may want to use a packet capture to see if the packets are making it on the wire (arp requests, ICMP packets, sent and received packets...,etc..)Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Just going off your question topic, I had the same issue. I could not ping W7 machines, but XP machines would reply no problem. The problem was that W7's firewall blocks ping requests by default. There needs to be a firewall allowance for echo requests: Add the following to the Windows firewall Inbound Rules: File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In) File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv6-In)
