Unable to load xtunnel.cab to vista machine to establish VPN
I'm trying to establish a VPN tunnel to a NETGEAR ProSafe VPN Firewall FVS336G (WORK) from my notebook at home with Windows Vista Home Premium w/SP2 64 bit connected wireless to a NETGEAR RangeMax (HOME).Added site to trusted sites in IE. Reduced security to allow just about everything in IE, disabled virus software, disabled firewall, updated IE and tried different combination of all of these. I also cleared cache every time and cleared browser history and files. I am able to log on to NETGEAR Configuration Manager Login. But the tunnel software (xtunnel.cab) will only halfload before it fails. I did the same setup procedure on my desktop with XP w/SP3 also wireless to the RangeMax and was able to get it to run flawlessly. I've talked to our IT manager he's had no problems running his Vista laptop from his home to WORK. I fell this is a configuration issue with my machine but I'm at a total loss of how to fix this. I've searched the NETGEAR forum and every post I could find on Google without any luck.I also was on the phone with our IT manager when I was logged in with my notebook he couldn't see any issues on his end but the tunnel software just wont download completely to my machine. Any help provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KeithP.S. I also posted this same message on the NETGEAR forum. No luck with a solution.

I'm not sure if you solved this but the problem is most likely due to UAC which would explain why the XP computer worked fine. IT manager probably had a successful install becuase most IT know to simply turn off UAC because it is too annoying in Vista sometimes. To temporarily turn off UAC, Start->All Programs->Control Panel->User Accounts->Turn User Accounts On or Off. Deselect User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer. Click OK and make sure to Restart for settings to take effect. Start the VPN and it should successfully install the ActiveX control. After this is done, please remember to turn UAC back on. Since the control is now installed, UAC shouldnt cause anymore problems.
