Unable to install language pack
The installation of the English language pack (KB972813) on my German Win 7 Ultimate always fails with the following errors: "WindowsUpdate_80070643" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"
All the solutions I found regarding those errors only apply to either Office 2003 or .net unfortunately.
Has anybody seen this before and knows how to fix it?
Thanks in advance,

Hi Peter,
copy the file "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" to your document folder (otherwise you can't open it) and open it with notepad. Now search for errors. Which errors do you see?
Also open the WindowsUpdate.log and look for errors.
Which errors do you get?

Judging by your last error in the log (0x80070940), you could try the following suggestions (see the part for Windows 7):

Hi,
I would like to suggest:
Firstly,
empty the Temporary Internet files and %Temp% folder.
Secondly,
run sfc /scannow to scan the whole system files.
At last, re-install the language pack again.
Best Regards
Dale

I dl'd and ran checksur.exe, but it didn't find anything. The 2nd method mentioned there I'd really like to avoid since I run a triple boot PC (Win7, OSX & Ubuntu) and the Windows repair install would surely mess up my boot loader.

sfc found and fixed a couple of files and registry keys but the following language pack install failed again.

Windows Update error 80070643 can happen for several reasons. The most common cause is a problem with the .NET Framework installed on the computer. You might also encounter this error when installing updates for Microsoft Office 2003.
The only time I encounter this problem is when trying to load the language pack. I never had problems with .NET updates.

Is there actually a way to dl and install the language pack manually rather than using Win update?

You can find the failed language pack in your "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" folder. It has no file extension.

Hi Peter,
the crash error happens while installing the english entries for the boot loader.
please stop the Windows-Update service and rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ to
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution_old , start the service again.
Now run System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [April 2010] and go to the folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and open the file
checkSUR.log . Was the tool able to fix all errors? If, yes try it again, if not, post the errors from the checkSUR.log here.
For your second question, the WIndowsUpdate.log contais the link to the exe of the MUI:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/updt/2009/08/windows6.1-kb972813-x86-en-us_22ee3397a02372681b375ddabf6ffa33662fd500.exe
Download it and run it from your PC. Maybe this helps.

Hi André,
It still doesn't fly...
I renamed the SoftwareDistribution folder and ran checksur.exe which didn't find any errors. Then I installed the language pack manually and again - it failed.

Take ownership of your system drive and grant yourself full permision. Retry.
Also Microsoft published a fix here:

Good luck.

the crash error happens while installing the english entries for the boot loader.
I wonder if my triple boot environment causes the problem... My system doesn't use the Windows boot loader but a 3rd party loader called "Chameleon".

I got it fixed - at last!
As I suspected, the multi boot environment had caused the problem. One of the other OSs installed on my PC had taken over Window's 200MB system partition, which prevented the installation of the language pack.
I used "bcdboot.exe /s" to map the system partition to c:\, marked the Windows partition as active and after a reboot I was able to install the language pack successfully.
Thanks everybody for your effort to solve my problem. I really appreciate it.
