Unable to install ipv6
When I pull up the Select Network Protocol dialog box the driver appears without a digitally-signed icon and when I click it I get an error message: Could not add the requested component. The error is: The parameter is incorrect. When I try to install through the command prompt using "ipv6 install", I get this: Installing... Failed to complete the action. Error 0x80070057 If I then input "ipv6 if", I get: Could not access IPv6 protocol stack - the stack is not installed. To install, please use 'ipv6 install'. Can anyone help me please?

Hi Erichsoft, Have a look at the following article concerning installing IPv6 on Windows XP: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sag_ip_v6_pro_inst.mspx?mfr=true Let me know if that helps!Cody C Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

Well, yes, that gives the "Could not add the requested component, The error is: The parameter is incorrect." error.

Erichsoft, I've seen a corrupt registry entry cause this in the past. Try the following: Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Once you've selected CurrentVersion, you should see DevicePath in the right pane. Double click it. The value should be %SystemRoot%\inf Once you've made the change, reboot and try to install IPv6 again. Modifying REGISTRY settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of REGISTRY settings can be solved. Modifications of these settings are at your own risk.
