Unable to install TCP/IP Printer
Summary: I am unable to install a TCP/IP based printer on my home network to my new Acer Aspire 5750G Laptop running Windows 7 x64. Details: I have a home network with an HP Laserjet 4000 on it, accessed via a Jetdirect 600n card. The printer works fine on other machines (including those running Windows 7x64). The network address (192.168.2.211) is accessible from the laptop via a browser without issue. I cannot install the printer onto my laptop. When I try to install it via the "Add Printer Wizard", the wizard detects the printer type and the IP address without issue. When I click "Next", i get the error "Cannot Load Wizard Pages for standard TCP/IP Port". If I install the printer first as a local (LPT-based) printer, and then try to add the TCP/IP port, I cannot do this - when I click "Add port" in the properties page, I get a list of "Printer ports", which does not have Standard TCP/IP port as an option. What I have already tried: Creating the registry entries to re-enable the "Standard TCP/IP Port" option, as seen on this site - i.e. the following: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Monitor\ Add key Standard TCP/IP Port Add String Value; value name=Driver; value data=tcpmon.dll under Standard TCP/IP Port Add Key Ports Add three Dwords in Ports LprAckTimeout value data= 180 StatusUpda****abled value data= 1 StatusUpdateInterval value data= 10 stop and start spooler This hasn't worked; I also exported that registry tree from another Windows 7x64 machine which does work, and imported that. Still not working. Checked on the files that are used for TCP/IP Ports and they are all there: in \windows\system32 tcpmon.dll tcpmib.dll tcpmonui.dll I don't have any of the files that have been references in the %systemroot% folder that would cause conflicts: Wsnmp32.dll, Ntprint.dll, Tcpmib.dll, Mgmtapi.dll, or Snmpapi.dll Run sfc/ scannow - this apparently found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. The CBS.log file is unreadable, oddly. In short, I'm out of ideas. I posted this originally on answers.microsoft.com and had a number of other things suggested (wrong driver, etc) which were all dead ends; the adviser on there then told me to post the question on here. I see a couple of other threads which have solutions which didn't work (such as 'delete and reinstall the drivers'). It's not often that I can't find a solution for a computer problem, and I have done a lot of looking - all of it has pointed to the solutions above which haven't worked. Judging by the searches I've seen, I'm not the only one. Help would be appreciated.

Hi, Please Try The Following: 1. Back up your registry and/or computer. Im sure most people will ignore this step. Im also sure that a lot of people have screwed their Windows install up by deleting the wrong registry key or changing default values. ** Please do not skip this step ** 2. Open up regedit from the command line 3. Navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\ 4. Check the permissions on this key. You should should have at least: Everyone: Full, Read Creator Owner: Special System: Full, Read Administrators: Full, Read Users: Read 5. If missing, under the key in step 3, add the key Standard TCP/IP Port In this key, add a new String Value with: value name=Driver value data=tcpmon.dll 6. If missing, under the key in step 5, add the key Ports Add three new Dword values in this key: LprAckTimeout value data= 180 StatusUpdateEnabled value data= 1 StatusUpdateInterval value data= 10 7. From Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services stop and start the Printer Spooler service. Kind Regards, Martin (Credit : Gravitational FX)If you find my information useful, please rate it. :-)

Hi. I've already done that - made no odds.

Hi, Is there any particular software installed when compared with another Windows 7x64 machine? This time, please try the following: 1.Ping the printers IP to test whether you can communicate with the printer. 2. Disable all the third party security programs and boot in Clean Boot to test the issue. 3. Perform an In-Place upgrade to repair system. Hi There's nothing unusual installed on the laptop - it has no software installed on it that isn't on the other machine - aside from standard stuff like Office, it also has Adobe Creative Suite on it, and Steinberg Cubase 6.5. I can ping the printer's IP without issue, plus I can connect to the printer's web-based control at the same IP address - this works without issue, so I can clearly connect without any problem to the printer. The problem comes before I even get a chance to set the IP address, it's that an IP printer is not available. Incidentally, 3 colleagues have the same make and model of laptop and the same happens on their computers, so it looks as if it's an issue with Acer's version of Windows 7. I've just tried a Clean Boot. Exactly the same happened - when trying to install the printer, it is detected by the wizard, and clicking next brings up the same error message as before. I don't think I can do an in-place upgrade - the only recovery CDs I have from Acer are their restore ones which only give the option to restore the computer to the as-new settings, wiping everything. The music software I have on here took about 3 days to install (really - it takes forever to install all the plugins and sample libraries that I use), and the computer had this problem from new - connecting to my printer was one of the things i tried first on it.

Hi, For a test, try setting up the printer from the Acer computer and then sharing the printer. Also, update your BIOS, chipset for Acer machines.Tracy Cai TechNet Community Support

Hi The printer can't be set up on the laptop directly, it's an old laserjet and has only a parallel port, no USB. I have set it up when shared as a windows share on another machine, and it works OK then. It's a problem with the laptop not being able to set up an IP printer, not the printer itself. The BIOS is up to date.
