Unable to install Hyper-V

Hello,

I've been trying to install Hyper-V for a while, every time failing either with error 0x800F0906 or 0x800F081F. I tried pretty much all of the available fixes that didn't involve having to reinstall the entire OS which is a total hassle I'd rather avoid unless strictly necessary.

I changed the group policy to allow the installation from Windows Update, and forced change. I rebooted in the meantime several times too. I copied the sources/sxs folder from my Windows 8.1 ISO and provided it as an extra source. I even tried to use Win10 sxs folder from the ISO. Neither of these worked.

I tried using DISM from both shell and powershell (elevated). Neither worked. Installation just gets to 66% and claims it needs sources. ScanHealth and RestoreHealth do nothing, neither does sfc /scannow.

C:\Windows\logs\CBS because I saw many threads requesting that.

Have you tried to install FrameWork 3.5 via Windows Features (Turn Windows features on of off)?

I prefer that you don't copy an extra source anywhere.

Set an extra source directly to the installation media.

Here is the guide.

.NET Framework 3.5 has been installed before my attempts, I didn't try to install the additional parts (Windows Communication Foundation).

I tried getting the SxS source both from the installation media and after copying it to the local hard drive. Most guides suggest copying.

I tried pointing the group policy to the installation media just now. It didn't help.

Hello Haxton Fale,

How do you install the Hyper-v? Control panel->Turn Windows features on or off?

Please share us the step  you use SxS source to fix this issue.

Please take a look at the following thread similar to this issue.

1.Right click the Windows  iso you have downloaded and mount it .
2.Get into the drive and copy the sxs folder to a different drive (For example Z:).
3.Run the following code(as an administrator ):
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:microsoft-hyper-v-all /All /LimitAccess /Source:Z:\sxs

I tried using the Turn Windows features on and off window, and I tried DISM in the console as administrator.

I tried to specify the SxS source as an extra folder in the Group Policy, both straight from the mounted disk and after copying it to my local hard drive. I also tried both ways in the console, and all I get is the process stuck at 66% and then failing, saying that there is no source and I can specify it using the /source switch - which I do, in spite of it claiming otherwise.

Hello Haxton Fale,

Run the command dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:microsoft-hyper-v-all /All /LimitAccess /Source:Z:\sxs, and then get the error message about there is no source and stuck in 66%?

Please navigate to the C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM.
Upload and share the dism.log with us for analyzation.

I've looked at the log myself and it says nothing beyond not being able to find the source. Here it is: http://1drv.ms/15NX0xF

I checked, then checked again, then redownloaded, checked, failed, checked that I downloaded the right one, and failed again. Unless both Dreamspark and MSDN downloads are faulty, there is nothing wrong with my Windows 8.1 ISOs.

EDIT: Just to be on the safe side, I have just redownloaded a new ISO using the Windows 8.1 installation tool. The same error occurs.

I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro. I'm not using WSUS. I changed the group policy to allow the system to use Windows Update instead of WSUS.

The DISM log produces the exact same error - could not find sources.

As a small bonus: I have another PC with Windows 8.1 Pro. After enabling the virtualization in BIOS/CPU settings, I was able to simply download and install Hyper-V on it, without having to change anything extra, not even the group policy to allow bypassing WSUS.

I tried these solutions. I assume the source for DISM was to be in a mounted Windows ISO?

The process got stuck at 20% when I used that, yielding the same error - could not find sources.

I'll probably give up on Hyper-V for now. It seems more trouble than it's worth to try installing it when the system is so against it. Thank you for your help.
