Unable to create desktop shortcut using IE 64bit
Win 7 Home Premium 64bitI've found that there are two IE program showing in the "All Programs" list. the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version. I have need to run a link using the 64 bit version (Remote Desktop Connection). When I try to create a desktop shortcut to a link requiring IE 64 bit version the default is the 32 bit version.I've tried opeing IE 64bit from the programs and accessing my url and usng File - Send to - Shortcup to desktop. I've tried creating my URL as a favourite and dragging it to the desktop.I'm able to prove the IE version by accessing "Help About Internet Explorer". When I run the program as IE 64bit help shows IE8 64 Bit Version)... when I save the shortcut to the desktop and run it - Help says IE 8 - no 64 bit.

HiCreate a shortcut to the 64bit version of Internet Explorer on the Desktop.Right click the shortcut and in the target Line, add the URL to the that line. It should look like this:"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.microsoft.comDon't forget the space between the second " and http. The issue you are seeing is because the 32bit version of IE is hard coded as the default browser and this cannot be changed. The following article gives a good explanation for this design decision by a Program Manager on the IE Team.EricLaw's IEInternals : Q&A: 64-Bit Internet ExplorerLet us know if this works for you.Thank You for using Windows 7Ronnie Vernon MVP
