Unable to connect with DNS Server, why?
We have a PC in work's lan who it don't resolve hostname of some PCs. It only resolves hosnames from another Vista machines. Therefore we have Macs and a Windows Server 2003. The message it shows:"unable to connect with DNS Server (xx.xxx.xxx.xx)" I've tried ping this DNS IP who shows from another PCs in same LAN and it also doesn't have response. How do I solve this problem? Thanks all A. Fernandes

Hi,Are all the computers domain-joined? How are you trying to connect when you get that error? Is the error on the Macs when trying to connect to Vista or vice versa? Victor Constantinescu - MVP Security, MCTS

Hi, VictorAnswering your questions1) We don't have a Domain Controller' machine, our DNS configuration has provided by our Internet provider.2) The error appears when I access "Diagnostic and repair" on Sharing and Network Central.3) We have only File Server who has Windows 2003 Server. Our Macs don't resolve hosname of our server (only by IP), and one PC (Vista Home Basic). Another 5 PC (4 Vista Home Basic and 1 Vista Home Premim) resolve and has normal access on server (by IP or Hostname). Thanks a lot.Felipe Fernandes

Hi,Name resolution is not provided by DNS servers when it comes to Netbios names, and especially not DNS servers provided by ISP.How are your computers getting their IPs? Did you assign each of them a static IP or do you have a DCHP server that assigns IPs? Victor Constantinescu - MVP Security, MCTS
