Unable to connect to wireless home network with netbook running Windows XP. ("Acquiring network address" problem).
I have an Acer Netbook with Windows XP. I recently got wireless home broadband with Vodafone but when I try and connect to the network, it just says "Acquiring network address" but never successfully connects. If I run a network troubleshooter it says "Renewing IP address" but again it never succeeds. Other computers are connected to the network and connected without a problem. The network is WPA secured. 1 person needs an answerI do too

Hi, Navigate to the Control Panel, open Network Connections and double click the connection in question. Click the support tab, have a look to see if it says the Address Type is DHCP. Also can you note your IP address here, just the first two section i.e. xxx.xxx. "If you find my reply helpful please click the 'Vote As Helpful' button next to my reply"

Hi, When your system says it has sucessfully connected to the newtork, try to ping your routers IP (Also known as your Gateway). To ping, click Start, Run and enter CMD in the box, click OK. When the box appears type ping 'then your routers IP address' i.e. ping 192.168.0.1 and press enter, take note of what happens and post back. Make sure you leave the space between the ping and the ip address. When you say you have entered a IP from another PC did you change the last digit i.e. 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.3 on the PC with the issue?Have you also tried to run a virus / malware scan? Malware and viruses and can browsers from seeing the Interent."If you find my reply helpful please click the 'Vote As Helpful' button next to my reply"

Hi, When I ping the router, first it says request timed out, four times, then:"Ping statistics for 192.168.".":Packets: Sent = 4, Recieved = 0, Lost = 0 (100% loss). I have made sure to change the IP address as you advised, and I have a full scan of the computer done but no viruses. The computer can connect with some other networks without a problem. Thanks again for the help!

Hi, Sorry for the late reply. Here are a few points to follow:- Download Winsockfix (You can get it from www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html) run this tool.- Boot into Safe Mode- If you are using windows wireless configuration, navigate to services.msc and restart the Windows Zero configuration service- Set your IP address and DNS addresses.- Disable any antivirus / firewall program even Windows firewall- Now try to ping your routers IP"If you find my reply helpful please click the 'Vote As Helpful' button next to my reply"
